Cha Cheong Hwa: “Misunderstanding of Receiving Allowance TWICE from Yoo Jae-suk… Remembering the Heart of the Unknown Era”
Actor Cha Cheong Hwa clarified a past story related to her connection with Yoo Jae-suk, addressing the misunderstanding that spread after a broadcast with honesty.
On the episode of MBC variety show ‘Radio Star’ aired on the 11th, actors Do Ji-won, Kim Geum-soon, Han Ji-eun, and Cha Cheong Hwa appeared as guests for a special feature on actors.
During the show, Cha Cheong Hwa shared various stories about her acting connections with MBC, struggles during her unknown era, and episodes with Yoo Jae-suk.
Especially regarding the past statement that she receIVEd allowance from Yoo Jae-suk, which sparked controversy, Cha Cheong Hwa mentioned, “In reality, I only receIVEd it about TWICE, but it was reported as if I regularly receIVEd allowance,” and added, “Even my mother, upon hearing that story, said, ‘Were you struggling that much?'”
She further recalled the situation with a smile, saying, “Senior Yoo Jae-suk probably was surprised when he saw the news.”
Cha Cheong Hwa gained attention in 2020 when she appeared on KBS2’s ‘Happy Together 4’ and shared a heartwarming anecdote, saying, “Senior Yoo Jae-suk, who was in the same agency ten years ago, warmly greeted me whenever he visited the office and even gave me allowance a few times.” However, this statement was exaggerated and led to unintended misunderstandings.
The broadcast also introduced stories about Cha Cheong Hwa’s beginnings and growth as an actor.
She revealed that she had the opportunity to appear in the MBC sitcom ‘Elephant’ in her early 20s but was informed of her departure during filming due to a lack of understanding of the drama set.
Regarding the situation at the time, she honestly admitted, “As it was a daily sitcom, the production team had no room for flexibility, and I was also unprepared.”
However, using the setback as a stepping stone, Cha Cheong Hwa said, “After leaving, I bought acting-related books at a bookstore, studied, and even bought a camera to study acting on my own.”
Through such consistent efforts, she eventually won a supporting role award in the recent MBC drama ‘The Red Sleeve’.
