Hwang Jung-eum, 9-year marriage comes to an end… Property dispute settled with divorce mediation

Former member of the group ‘Sugar,’ actress Hwang Jung-eum (40) has officially concluded her divorce with her husband Lee Young-don after a long legal battle.

Her agency, YW Entertainment, announced on the 26th, “Hwang Jung-eum’s divorce mediation has been smoothly finalized through a family court decision,” revealing the conclusion of the divorce process.

It has been approximately 1 year and 3 months since the divorce lawsuit was first filed in February 2024.

Property-related issues such as real estate seizure and loan repayment lawsuits that arose during this process have also been somewhat resolved.

The agency stated, “The property preservation measures taken during the divorce lawsuit were standard procedures and are expected to be lifted soon,” adding an explanation regarding the reports.

It was reported that Hwang Jung-eum and Lee Young-don went through legal procedures regarding the division of their joint assets during the divorce process.

However, legal issues surrounding Hwang Jung-eum are still ongoing.

She was recently indicted for embezzlement under the Specific Economic Crimes Punishment Act for allegedly embezzling approximately 4.3 billion won from a corporation, Hoonminjeongeum Entertainment, where she owned 100% of the shares, and investing it in cryptocurrency. Some of the funds have already been repaid.

In addition, a second divorce lawsuit initiated due to suspicions of her ex-husband’s infidelity, her brief public relationship with basketball player Kim Jong-kyu, and legal disputes with a woman wrongly accused of being her mistress have added to the complexity of her personal affairs.

Although the defamation lawsuit against individual A was withdrawn, the controversy did not easily subside.

In response, the agency stated, “We deeply apologize for the social unrest caused by Hwang Jung-eum’s personal matters.”
