The reason why Lee Young-ae returned as Heda Gabler… “I wanted to portray a character with loneliness and agony.”

Actress Lee Young-ae is expanding the range of her acting skills once again through the play “Hedda Gabler.” During an interview held at ‘Seoul Lounge M’ in LG Art Center in Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul on the 13th, she sincerely expressed her passion for the work and the philosophy embedded in the character. Based on Ibsen’s classic play, “Hedda Gabler,” but adapted into a modern version by Richard Eyre, the production focused on delicate psychological descriptions and visual direction, led by Jeon In-cheol, who won the Dong-A Theatre Award for directing. Lee Young-ae described the character Hedda as “a figure with a vague color different from ordinary women,” and introduced the costume concept she personally proposed. She stated, “There were comments that Hedda had both a golden touch and a sense of nobility, but I wanted to portray deeper anguish and desperation.” Eyre expressed his appreciation for working on various platforms. He expressed his desire to continue challenging meaningful works as long as his physical strength allows, reflecting his ongoing passion for the stage. Lee Young-ae is also set to continue her activities in the drama “A Good Day for the Wind to Blow” on KBS this year. While maintaining her focus as an actress, Lee Young-ae continues to engage in diverse activities beyond YouTube and broadcasting, and it seems that she will further expand her unique acting world through innovative and challenging performances in the future.
