Baek Jong-won, the CEO of The Born Korea, has been subjected to a police investigation (preliminary inquiry) in connection with suspicions that “untested cooking equipment was supplied to franchise stores.” The Seoul Gangnam Police Station has initiated an investigation into the allegations of violations of the Food Sanitation Act by CEO Baek and The Born Korea corporation. A complaint was filed by a whistleblower alleging that The Born Korea commissioned the production of ‘chicken bone fryers’ from an unlicensed company and supplied these cooking equipment free of charge to 54 franchise stores of the beer franchise ‘Baek’s Beer.’ If these allegations are true, there could be significant legal implications. The Born Korea is also under police investigation for false advertising suspicions related to their ‘ddeokjuk’ and ‘chewy sweet potato bread’ products. CEO Baek announced through his YouTube channel on the 6th that he will suspend all broadcasting activities except for the ongoing filming and take responsibility for compensating franchisees who have suffered damages.
