Actress Kim Hye-ja discussed her chemistry with Son Seok-gu at the online production presentation of the new JTBC weekend drama ‘More Beautiful than a Flower’ held on the 18th. The event was attended by director Kim Seok-yoon, Kim Hye-ja, Son Seok-gu, Han Ji-min, Lee Jung-eun, Chun Ho-jin, and Ryu Deok-hwan.
‘More Beautiful than a Flower’ is a transcendent romance that unfolds as Lee Hae-sook (played by Kim Hye-ja), who arrives in heaven at the age of 80, reunites with her husband Go Nak-joon (played by Son Seok-gu) in his 30s. Director Kim Seok-yoon of ‘Radiant’ teamed up once again with writers Lee Nam-gyu and Kim Soo-jin.
Kim Hye-ja mentioned that she had already marked Son Seok-gu, who plays her husband, beforehand. She watched the drama ‘My Liberation Diary’ and thought, ‘He’s a really good actor.’ She said, ‘I thought it would be nice if he were my husband.’ Even though he is young, he led well.
Son Seok-gu recalled, “It’s an honor. I received a call from the director when I was hailing a taxi on the street. I said, ‘I’ll definitely do it,’ but it was Kim Hye-ja who chose me. I said, ‘I’ll definitely do it.'”
Director Kim commented on the couple’s chemistry, saying, “After the casting was decided, we had a meal together. I thought it was a blind date. I felt like it was going well after seeing the atmosphere. On set, from the rehearsal, a picture of a couple who didn’t feel the age difference emerged.” He added, “I didn’t specifically request anything. Son Seok-gu’s sincere affection for the teacher made him express his hope that consideration for the real senior and love for the wife in the drama wouldn’t be confused.”
Son Seok-gu said, “I didn’t feel awkward from the first time I met the teacher. There was pressure about acting as a married couple with someone, but it didn’t feel awkward because the other role was the teacher.”
He also said, “Everything Nak-joon said and did was for Hae-sook. It was clear. I tried my best to act with all my heart, and I think it was realized thanks to the teacher.” He sincerely expressed, “I thought that if I didn’t put my heart into it, it wouldn’t match. I acted with the mindset of only thinking about Hae-sook.”
