Star English instructor Cho Jung-sik, who is currently appearing on Channel A’s entertainment program ‘Please Take Care of My Grades: Teachers Season 2’ (hereinafter referred to as ‘Teachers 2’), has found himself at the center of controversy over suspicions of trading exam questions with current teachers. InvestigatIVE media outlet Sherlock reported on June 10th that Cho Jung-sik receIVEd exam questions from a current high school teacher, Mr. A, from 2021 to 2023 and paid a total of 58 million won in return. This trade was not just a simple transaction between individuals, but rather an instance of an organized distribution structure of exam questions among multiple academies and current teachers, causing shockwaves throughout the education sector. Teacher A sold exam questions to a total of 11 academies over the past fIVE years, earning approximately 238 million won in profits. It is recorded in the audit report that Cho Jung-sik receIVEd a direct payment of 2 million won as the first installment for the exam questions. In particular, another teacher, B, who served as a member of the national college entrance exam review committee, is under suspicion of leaking exam answer information to Cho Jung-sik, which could have a significant impact on the fairness of the college entrance exam. According to investigations by the audit office and the police, a total of 21 current teachers were confirmed to have traded exam questions with Cho Jung-sik, and the police have referred 11 academy instructors and three private education companies to the prosecution, totaling 100 individuals. Cho Jung-sik was also sent for investigation on charges of violating the Anti-Corruption Act and obstruction of business on the 17th of last month. However, Cho Jung-sik’s legal representatIVE denies the allegations, stating, “There is no admission of trading exam questions.” As the controversy continues to escalate, the production team of ‘Teachers 2’ stated that they are “in the process of verifying the situation,” and there is no change in Cho Jung-sik’s participation in interviews. ‘Teachers 2′ is an educational entertainment program where top instructors in South Korea solve students’ study concerns, and the current season 2 is being broadcast every Sunday. Cho Jung-sik has been a fixed cast member as an English instructor since season 1, building a high level of recognition and trust.
