KBS has deemed the new songs by J-Hope, Jennie, and ENHYPEN as ‘unsuitable for broadcast’ due to lyrics scrutiny standards.

KBS announced that BTS’s J-Hope and Jenna’s new songs, as well as the new song by the boy group ENHYPEN, have been deemed unsuitable for broadcast by the music review committee, resulting in restrictions on their exposure on public television. This review focused on whether the lyrics contained advertising references and the use of vulgar language. On the 11th, KBS revealed the results of the weekly music review, which included a total of 125 digital singles and albums submitted for consideration over the past week. Out of these, 117 songs were deemed suitable while 7 were deemed unsuitable. Only one song was excluded from this review. J-Hope’s new song, “Killin’ It Girl,” both the solo version and the version featuring American artist Gorilla, receIVEd an unsuitable rating for broadcast due to specific product brand mentions in the lyrics. “Killin’ It Girl” is scheduled to be released on the 13th and is the final single from J-Hope’s solo project “HOPE ON THE STREET VOL.1.” It seems inevitable that the lyrics will need to be modified for broadcast use. Jenna’s “Pretty Heart” also receIVEd an unsuitable rating from KBS for containing profanity, vulgar language, and inappropriate expressions in some of the lyrics. Set to be released on the 17th, this song, which sings about reconciliation and emotional honesty, is an R&B track that combines populism and emotional messages, garnering high expectations. The title track “Itty Bitty” from the special album by the boy group ENHYPEN was also deemed unsuitable for broadcast for similar reasons, as it contained vulgar language and inappropriate expressions in the lyrics. Songs that have been deemed unsuitable for broadcast can undergo a reevaluation if the problematic lyrics are revised or removed. KBS’s strict lyric review standards are expected to continue to be a significant factor for artists preparing for broadcast exposure. Among the songs reviewed that day, “라면먹고 갈래요?” by 정상수 & 홍가, “Red” by 팻햄스터 & 캉뉴, and “A Gentleman’s Agreement” also receIVEd unsuitable ratings for containing advertising references and vulgar language. The results of KBS’s music review are expected to be an important decision-making factor considering the impact on the music industry.
