The upcoming KBS 2TV new Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘I Took the First Night of the Male Lead’ (written by Jeon Seon-young/directed by Lee Woong-hee, Kang Soo-yeon) released the first teaser video ahead of its first broadcast on June 11, depicting the tangled encounter between the solidly entangled supporting character Cha Seon-chaek (played by Seohyun) and the male lead Lee Eun (played by Ok Taecyeon) from their first meeting.
‘I Took the First Night of the Male Lead’ is a romance novel with the soul of an ordinary college student, where the screen supporting character, who is imbued with the spirit of a romance novel, spends a night with the novel’s strongest obsessed male lead, unfolding a ‘no-break’ departure from the conventional romance fantasy drama.
The first teaser video sheds light on the moment when real-life college student K enters the novel as the supporting character. Confused by the situation, she exclaims, “Isn’t this a folk village?” Upon realizing that she has become the supporting character in a romance novel she was a fan of, she can’t contain her excitement. Her reaction of anticipation rather than disappointment in the unfamiliar situation brings a smile and hints at the unexpected appearance of an extraordinary character.
Her relaxed enjoyment of becoming the supporting character also catches attention. Peering through binoculars, Cha Seon-chaek suddenly recognizes the male lead Lee Eun and admires his good looks more than she expected. She then reminds herself not to wake up from the dream, revealing her fangirl side and adding a comic charm.
However, this peace is shattered as she encounters Lee Eun. After sharing a kiss and spending a night together, Lee Eun confronts Cha Seon-chaek, accusing her of seducing him deliberately and stealing his innocence. With a shocking statement, he effortlessly reveals the ruthless side of the original novel’s male lead. What Cha Seon-chaek was looking forward to as a romance turns out to be a life-threatening situation.
As the male lead constantly questions the supporting character’s role, Cha Seon-chaek desperately tries to avoid the situation by hiding or pretending to be ignorant. However, she eventually reaches her limit, bursting out, “To die or to marry, that is the question!” Her struggle, facing not first love or a love triangle, but a survival game, draws attention with a delightful twist.
Thus, ‘I Took the First Night of the Male Lead’ unfolds the unpredictable development between Cha Seon-chaek, who has possessed the supporting character in the novel, and the original male lead Lee Eun, breaking the formula of romance and garnering interest in the unexpected narrative. Anticipation is building on which direction their relationship will take and what kind of impact this deviation from the conventional romance narrative will have.
