Netflix’s ‘Tangum’, a new horizon of mystery melodrama historical drama… A delicate intersection of tradition and emotion.

Netflix is unveiling a new original series set in the Joseon era following ‘Kingdom,’ titled ‘Arthdal Chronicles.’ At a production presentation held on the morning of May 13 at the Ramada Seoul Sindorim Hotel in Seoul’s Guro-gu, director Kim Hong-sun and actors Lee Jae-wook, Jo Bo-ah, Jung Ga-ram, Eom Ji-won, and Park Byung-eun attended to discuss the project’s intentions, character narratives, and in-depth stories about Korean aesthetics. ‘Arthdal Chronicles’ draws symbolic inspiration from ancient Chinese punishments, presenting a mystery melodrama entwined with love, desire, and power struggles. Based on the novel ‘Arthdal Chronicles: The Children of Prophecy’ by author Jang Dong-yoon, the story begins when Hong-ran, the missing successor of the topmost class in Joseon, returns after 12 years with lost memories. Centered around his half-sister, E-ji, who is the only one suspicious of his true identity, the series unfolds the subtle emotional dynamics between the two and the power struggles surrounding the top class. ‘Arthdal Chronicles’ will be globally released through Netflix on May 16 at 4 p.m., presenting another potential for Korean historical dramas in the global content market where tradition and modernity, emotions, and suspense intersect.
