(G)I-DLE celebrates their 7th debut anniversary by dropping the “(여자)” and changing their group name to “I-DLE.”
On the 2nd, (G)I-DLE’s agency Cube Entertainment announced, “We have officially changed the group name from (여자)아이들 to I-DLE. In celebration of their 7th debut anniversary, the members of (G)I-DLE, who have been together since their debut on May 2, 2018, will leave behind the group name they have been using and start anew as I-DLE.”
The group has removed the “여자” and “G” from their previous names, “(여자)아이들” and “(G)I-DLE,” respectively. Through this change, I-DLE has reestablished their identity as a group that cannot be defined by any gender. They have also eliminated the parentheses used to distinguish or emphasize certain aspects, expressing their commitment to showcasing music and concepts without limits.
Revealing a new logo and symbol, I-DLE stated, “The logo, composed of lowercase ‘i d l e,’ expands on the circular shape, utilizing the principles of dots, lines, and surfaces in a structured design. It symbolizes I-DLE’s infinite possibilities and organic connections.” They further explained, “The symbol, formed by five ‘i’s coming together to create a star shape, represents the five unique members of I-DLE uniting as one integrated group.”
Having all members renew their contracts with Cube Entertainment in December last year, I-DLE embarked on a bold rebranding, signaling not just a simple name change but a leap towards greater heights.
