BTS’s Jin is showing off his variety show skills and passion in his first solo variety show ‘Run BTS Jin’.
‘Run BTS Jin’ is Jin’s solo variety show that is released on BTS’s YouTube channel every Tuesday. In order to respond to the love of ARMY (fandom name) he challenges himself in various fields with the mindset of ‘I can do anything’. Since opening the door with a climb of Hallasan in Jeju Island just 5 days after his discharge in June last year, he has continued with high-intensity content such as maritime police training, experiencing life in a nursing home, UFC, mechanical gymnastics, and fencing.
So far, 32 episodes have been released, with a total view count of approximately 77 million views (as of April 29). Planning and directly challenging new concepts every week is not an easy task. This was possible because Jin sincerely wanted to communicate closely with fans through ‘Run BTS Jin’.
Another highlight of ‘Run BTS Jin’ is the impressive lineup of guests. The cast, which transcends the boundaries of idols, actors, comedians, athletes, and YouTubers, demonstrates Jin’s wide network and friendliness. He experienced a jjimjilbang (Korean sauna) with actor and director Yutaka Matsushige, famous for the Japanese drama ‘The Solitary Gourmet’, and reunited with Gian84 and Ji Ye-eun from Netflix’s ‘The Culprit is You’.
Jin’s activities continued on Netflix as well. In the recently concluded variety show ‘The Culprit is You’, he took on a central role within the Gian84 team based on his diligence and cheerfulness. His ability to quickly adapt to unfamiliar environments and maintain a positive attitude even in uncomfortable situations left a deep impression not only on fans but also on the public. He also gained popularity. According to the popularity analysis firm FUNdex, Jin ranked first in the TV-OTT integrated variety show popularity category in the 3rd week of April.
Having proven himself as ‘world-class’ on stage, he showcased the charm of ‘Human Kim Seokjin’ by leading the atmosphere modestly and friendly in ‘Run BTS Jin’ and ‘The Culprit is You’. Especially in ‘Run BTS Jin’, he induced laughter with unexpected tactics like using ‘tricks’ during games or missions. The term ‘Jinmudulda’ emerged, referring to guests leaving exhausted after his all-around activities.
Jin’s passion extends to his main job. His second mini-album ‘Echo’, to be released on May 16, contains stories that spread like different echoes of various moments in life. Based on band sound, the album includes seven diverse tracks, and Jin contributed to the lyrics of most of the tracks such as ‘Nothing Without Your Love’, ‘Loser (feat. YENA)’, ‘Rope It’, and ‘Traveling with Clouds’, adding authenticity. The title track ‘Don’t Say You Love Me’ is a song that sings about the irony of not being able to let go of each other due to love even as a relationship falls apart.
On June 28-29, Jin will hold his first solo fan concert ‘#RUNSEOKJIN_EP.TOUR’ at the Goyang Ilsanseo-gu Goyang Gymnasium Auxiliary Stadium. This tour will continue with a total of 18 performances in Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and other countries.
On the other hand, on the 25th, Jin made a surprise appearance at the final performance of Coldplay’s ‘LIVE NATION PRESENTS COLDPLAY: MUSIC OF THE SPHERES DELIVERED BY DHL’ at Goyang Ilsanseo-gu Goyang Gymnasium. This was his second collaboration following the 19th performance. On that day, Jin heated up the scene by singing Chris Martin’s first solo single ‘The Astronaut’ and the collaboration song ‘My Universe’.
