Highlight expressed their thoughts on reclaiming the name ‘BEAST’ and their determination for future activities. Highlight (Yoon Doo-joon, Yang Yo-seob, Lee Gi-kwang, Son Dong-woon) will make a comeback on the 28th at 6 p.m. with their sixth mini album ‘From Real to Surreal.’ On this day, Highlight held an online press conference to commemorate the release of their new album.
‘From Real to Surreal’ is an album released approximately a year after their fifth mini-album ‘Switch On’ in March last year. Yoon Doo-joon said, “I always feel nervous and overwhelmed every time we release an album” and added, “Even though it’s our 17th year, it always feels new. We put our all into every album we release.” Lee Gi-kwang mentioned, “I am enjoying showing different sides and the process of creating something new.”
The album includes a total of four songs, including the title track ‘Chains’ and the pre-released track ‘Endless Ending.’ Among them, the pre-released track ‘Endless Ending’ garnered attention as it is the first album released by Highlight under the name ‘BEAST’ since their regular album ‘Highlight’ in 2016, about 9 years ago.
Highlight, who shared the news of using the BEAST trademark last year, gathered mixed emotions. Yang Yo-seob said, “I am happy to preserve the memories of our fans” and added, “Cube Entertainment cooperated with us, and the strong will of the members led to good synergy. I am grateful to both our current agency, Around Us, and our former agency for their help. I hope to create even more wonderful memories from now on.”
Regarding the track ‘Endless Ending’ released under the name BEAST, Yang Yo-seob said, “Just hearing the name BEAST brings back emotions. ‘Endless Ending’ is a precious song that allowed us to restart the time that had momentarily stopped for BEAST” and added, “As many people have memories of BEAST, there is a sense of responsibility to present a truly wonderful song and performance.”
Highlight debuted under the name BEAST in 2009 under Cube Entertainment, receiving much love with hit songs like ‘Shock,’ ‘Fiction,’ and ‘On Rainy Days.’ The members established a new agency and have been active as Highlight since 2017.
In ‘From Real to Surreal,’ Highlight delivers a musical message that transcends reality and unreality. The title track ‘Chains’ starts with a fresh clarinet riff and flows addictively in a minimalistic yet catchy hip-hop genre. Highlight sings of a passionate and crazy love that can reach the soul with energetic and sensuous vocals. Lee Gi-kwang once again participated in writing and composing, enhancing the completeness of Highlight’s work.
