Trot singer Kim Ho-jung (33) has been sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison for a drunk driving hit-and-run accident. The Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Appeals Division 5-3 sentenced Kim, who was indicted on charges of dangerous driving causing injury, hit-and-run, and failure to take action after an accident under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Specific Crimes, to the same 2 years and 6 months imprisonment as the first trial. Kim was arrested for driving under the influence on May 9th last year at 11:44 p.m. on Apgujeong Road in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, where he collided with a taxi after crossing the centerline while driving under the influence and then fled the scene, leaving his manager to take the blame. Despite initially denying drunk driving, Kim admitted to the offense ten days after the accident. The police handed Kim over to the prosecution on suspicion of drunk driving, but he was not indicted at the prosecution stage as it was deemed difficult to confirm the blood alcohol level through retrograde extrapolation.
