The traditional Japanese women’s musical theater Takarazuka Revue has been reborn through the drama ‘Crash Landing on You’ and started its performances in Tokyo from November 30th. This special performance, marking the 110th anniversary of the all-female Takarazuka Revue, has garnered great interest locally with sold-out seats. The Takarazuka performance of ‘Crash Landing on You’ has many fans in Japan, and this time, actresses Jun Asami and Aya Yumesiro are participating in the roles of Ri Jeong-hyeok and Yoon Se-ri, raising the expectations of local audiences. Furthermore, the adaptation of a Korean drama into a Takarazuka performance is the second case since ‘The Legend’ in 2009, being evaluated as a demonstration of global popularity. The successful Japanese performance of ‘Crash Landing on You’ is also seen as an example of the global impact that the localization of a hit intellectual property can bring, with plans to showcase a replica performance featuring local musical actors alongside Season 2 performances in Japan in the future.
